Star has just dropped a bomb on me. He's leaving RNU at the end of the term. That takes the department down to 2 full time faculty and one 1/2 timer. And one adjunct.
We won't be able to cover our fall schedule. If we could push through all the bureaucracy and actually do the requisite national search, we'd need to start immediately. As of today, the Dean hasn't contacted me at all. Given the Dean's pace and practices, this is not a good sign. I would not put it past him to completely leave the department out of the process.

Job should be solid. I'm tenured. Yes, the other full timer is The Dino; the 1/2 is the other.
Bummer - just when he was becoming a better colleague! Good luck with the dean, though I'd be inclined to go to him and ask for a one year for next year - we did this a few years ago - and do the national search in the fall. But you always knew Star was a Star!
